A solid PVC material is a better choice for exercise equipment matting compared to a blown PVC. Blown PVC has foam like qualities as opposed to the solid nature of our Defender line. Blown PVC is made by blowing air into the PVC mixture during manufacturing. This process makes for a thicker but not necessarily stronger equipment mat. Foam compresses the instant equipment is placed on it and is subject to ripping and tearing over the long term. This is not the case with solid PVC. For your comparison, the typical PVC foam treadmill, rower or elliptical mat weights 8-9 lbs. Our Defender solid PVC mats weigh on average over 20 lbs each.
